Frequently

Asked

Questions

  • A podiatrist is a healthcare professional who specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of foot and lower-limb problems. We help with issues such as corns, calluses, ingrown toenails, verrucae, heel pain, and foot problems related to diabetes or arthritis. Our aim is to keep you comfortable, mobile, and pain-free.

  • In the UK, chiropodist and podiatrist mean the same thing. The term podiatrist is now more commonly used and is recognised internationally. All podiatrists in the UK must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

  • No, you don’t need a GP referral to see a private podiatrist. You can book an appointment directly. However, if you’re being referred through the NHS, you may need to go through your GP or local foot health service.

  • We treat a wide range of conditions including:

    • Ingrown or thickened toenails

    • Corns and calluses

    • Verrucae and fungal infections

    • Heel pain and plantar fasciitis

    • Bunions and foot deformities

    • Sports injuries

    • Diabetic foot care and circulation issues

  • Please bring:

    • A list of any medications you take

    • Your usual footwear

    • Any orthotics or insoles you currently use

    • Your NHS or medical history information (if relevant)

This helps us give the most accurate assessment and treatment.

  • A podiatrist is degree-qualified, HCPC-registered, and trained to diagnose and treat medical foot conditions.
Foot health practitioners provide basic foot care but are not regulated by the HCPC and cannot diagnose or prescribe.

  • Yes — HCPC-registered podiatrists who have completed additional prescribing qualifications can supply or prescribe certain medications, including antibiotics and pain relief creams when appropriate.

  • Absolutely. Children can experience a range of foot issues such as flat feet, ingrown toenails, warts, or walking concerns. Early assessment by a podiatrist can prevent long-term problems and support healthy development.

  • If you experience recurring foot, knee, or back pain, or if your shoes wear unevenly, you may benefit from custom orthotics. A biomechanical assessment helps identify whether bespoke insoles would improve your alignment and comfort.
